Pierce Family

This was a super fun family!! The dynamic between all five of these beautiful people was playful, warm, goofy, and very down-to-earth. I clicked immediately with them, and had a blast in Downtown Winter Garden. Although the mid-July temps were warm and humid, these guys kept their cool with their blues, tans and whites. Enjoy!

Summer Workshops

Whew! What a busy summer we had! I can’t believe it is almost back-to-school here in just a few short weeks.

Many students enrolled in the Back To Nature Workshops I held this summer. We explored several green spaces in Central Florida, such as Tibet Butler Nature Preserve, Nehrling Gardens, and The 1887 Schoolhouse in downtown Windermere.

Portfolio Presentations

This week marked the end of Spring Session 2017. It’s personally rewarding to hear five-year-olds talking about Worms-Eye and Birds-Eye views. My 5th-graders are showing their penchant for textures and offsetting the subject, while the 3rd graders rocked the portraits and closeups. It is an honor to instruct these students and I hope they keep changing their perspective, keep playing, and keep clicking! (Stay tuned for Nature Photography Summer Workshops)

Spring Session (Kids class)

Spring Session 2017 is coming to a close in a few short weeks. My students amaze me with how much they have retained from all the material we covered. I have learned more from them than they probably learned from me, however.

Younger students follow directions very well. They experiment less than the older ones, and tend to take either one picture during class, or 100 of the same scene. However, they remember all the Points of Views, and really can hold their own during quiz time.

The older students are starting to show their individual styles and unique perspectives, even as young as 10 years old.  Some of my students will be moving on to Howard Middle School, which is a Visual Arts based school in the area. From what they have shown me in class, I am confident they will thrive there.

I look forward to seeing great things from each of my students. Parents often tell me that their kids can’t put the camera down after taking my classes. They love exploring in the backyard, discovering nature, and searching for things that spark their imagination and curiosity. I try to make learning fun and interactive, using the outdoors as a classroom. They learn to work in groups, present to the class, they play, they make mistakes, but most of all they get hands-on-learning that they will carry with them as long as they carry a digital device.
